Advent-Day 5 2017

For day 5, we made puppy chow. Usually we make Chex Mix, which I love, and we may still make, but the girls have been BEGGING me for a few months to make puppy chow. So I thought it would be a fun change of pace. On the paper they pull out of the advent calendar I always write what we are going to be doing, and then I also try to draw a little picture to hint at what we’re doing (because we’re still learning how to read in this house). Now, we talked about my drawing skills yesterday. If you missed that, the basic point is: I’m not good at it. At all. So my drawings are not only a little wonky, but also plain out humorous. I should have taken a picture, but didn’t think about it, so I’ll just have to tell you. We made puppy chow for one of our camping trips this past year. Not thinking, we went to bed with it sitting out. Mind you, it was in a covered Tupperware bowl, so we really didn’t think much of it. Turns out, raccoons are excellent at opening said Tupperware bowls, and they are even better at devouring all the puppy chow inside of the bowl. Ever since the Great Raccoon Theft, it’s been the running joke in our family. Needless to say, for today’s paper slip, I drew a bowl of puppy chow with a raccoon trying to reach inside and steal it. The girls knew right away what we were going to be doing. And to my great pleasure, they got a big kick out of the drawing.

To make the puppy chow, we used this recipe. If you’ve never made it before, it’s super simple, and doesn’t take that long. The only addition that we made was that we added red, green, and white sprinkles to ours. Because Christmas. 🎄

Please take note of little Eleanor in the background chowing down on the chocolate spoon. 🙂

And their favorite part: shaking it all up.

The only thing I would do differently is to actually bend down to take out a big Ziploc baggie to shake it all up in. Bending is not exactly the easiest thing to do at this point in the pregnancy, so it won’t be quite as difficult next time. 😅
